Changes in Salary Commitment Calculation

We are in the process of reviewing, correcting and improving the salary commitment calculation for grant accounts that is used in the month-end reports and in OFIS.  Two changes were implemented during the month of March that are reflected in your March monthly reports.  Neither change affects the ACTUAL salary and wages expense calculation or where those charges were posted.

The first change posts the salary commitment for Post Doctoral Associate salaries to the proper subcode 1370.  Prior to March month-end the Post Doctoral Associates salary commitments were being posted to subcode 1200.  This change corrects this misposting going forward.

The second change corrects salary commitment accruals from July 2003 and August 2004 that were not previously reversed. 

Future Changes

Future changes include doing the salary commitment calculation more frequently and reviewing and changing, where needed, the salary commitment calculations by salary type and subcode to insure the most accurate calculations possible.  A small working group from the Division of Grant and Contract Accounting, University Accounting and the Office of Information Technology - Applications Development will be working on these changes over the coming months.  If you are interested in providing input on desired changes please contact Eileen Markey or Ron Thompson.
